Back to School Tomorrow. Not Excited.

Am I the only one not excited that my kids are going back to school tomorrow?

I happen to like sleeping in. I happen to like not having to get up at 7 o'clock in the morning, literally grabbing Lola out of bed, still in pajamas, wrapping her up in a blanket and stuffing her into her car seat (unwrapped from the blanket, of course.) I have to make sure Christian is ready and bathed, food in lunchbox, wheelchair in van, buckled up, and we're off. Not looking forward to it.

You know what I love? Sleeping in. Lazily rising when the kids are ready, which has been between eight to nine o'clock in the morning, grabbing coffee, turning on cartoons, staying in pajamas, it's all very leisurely.

"Momma, can we snuggle?" How can you not want to stay home and stay in bed after hearing that?

I know, I know, there's a lot of stuff to do. I even have things I need to do tomorrow and it will help that two-thirds of my kids are in school and Lola will go play with friends.

I get to go talk about the Bachelor  tomorrow!

But I'm still going to miss those leisurely vacation mornings I won't see until spring break. I have to admit I'm a tad jealous of all the school cancellations happening far north of me. They get to stay warm and snuggled in their homes. It's pretty mild here so we have to do stuff.

It's like tomorrow is the start of the real New Year. Because New Year's Day fell on a Wednesday, it was like having two bonus days in the week that we really didn't need to get our crap together for or acknowledge. Thursday and Friday really didn't count, right?

I miss my kids when they're gone. I like my space and my time away from them but not that much time. I miss Christian when he's in school all day. I miss Lola when I'm away from the house too long. And I miss Gabe when he's at school/a friend's house/the mall/in his room.

But 2014 is ready for us. There's a lot to be done and it's all going to be exciting.

That doesn't mean I won't miss winging it every morning. See you at Spring Break, leisurely mornings!

  1. I absolutely agree! :) I'm a night owl, and appreciate being able to sleep in! My little guy has to be on the bus for 7am, so I normally wake him up at 6:15... yuck! You're a great mom, and I appreciate everything you wrote! I only have one,so I give you extra credit. *high five momma!*

I hope the school day is successful!
