This is a sponsored post for Whole Foods Market - River Road.

I wanted to let all my local Tucsonans know about the Whole Foods Dressing Rehearsal that's happening at the Whole Foods Market at 5555 East River Road. This event will feature the most flavorful and delicious creations for holiday entertaining. And guess what...it's totally free and open to the public! Here are the deets:

  • Friday, December 13th 4PM-6PM - Sweet and Savory: Sample the hottest items from the Bakery Department along with the top ten wines of the season.
  • Saturday, December 14th 11AM-2PM - Holiday Ham Tasting
  • Sunday, December 15th 12PM-2PM - Santa's Workshop: One of a kind gift ideas and present wrapping.

You don't want to miss this and I'll give you one guess which one I won't be missing.

That's right! Did someone say "Bakery Department" and "Wine?"

I'm so there.

In fact, the event got me thinking about a "Girl's Night In" event I want to host this season. I know Whole Foods has an amazing selection of gourmet items and this most definitely includes dark chocolate. (My fave!) And it's better for you because it has less sugar and more of the good stuff - pure chocolate.

Dark chocolate is good for me.
Dark chocolate is good for me.
Dark chocolate is good for me.
Wine is good for me.

What?! Did I just type that out loud?

Anyway, back to my "Girl's Night In" idea. I've been craving some homemade dark chocolate peppermint bark and I think it would be fun to get together with my girlfriends over wine while we attempt to make said dark chocolate peppermint bark.

Really, it's the easiest thing ever. You really just need to know how to melt chocolate. Whole Foods has an excellent article on their website about how to melt chocolate that you can find here

But their method is the same I use by microwave.

  • Microwave Method: Heat chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl at half power, stopping to stir it gently every 30 seconds, until completely melted and smooth.
Chocolate tip: As you melt chocolate, watch for signs that it may be “seizing” or turning grainy. This happens when moisture — say a splash of water or a bit of steam — gets into the chocolate after it’s already begun to melt. (Note that some recipes call for melting chocolate along with liquid. This is OK, as long as the liquid is added at the beginning.)

After you've mastered the secret of melting chocolate, you're ready to make Peppermint Bark!

  1. Line baking sheet with wax paper.
  2. Melt dark chocolate and spread over wax paper in thick layer. Let cool and harden in the refrigerator.
  3. Melt white chocolate and when dark chocolate hardens, poor a thin layer of white chocolate over hardened dark chocolate. Before allowing white chocolate to cool, sprinkle crushed candy cane over melted white chocolate.
  4. Refrigerate.
  5. When chocolate is hard take out and break into "bark."
Can you imagine the fun that would ensue over wine and chocolate when breaking something is involved?

Speaking of wine, Whole Foods also has a top ten wine list with wines that are all under $25! A gift for me, a gift for you!

Of course, if you're invited to my "Girl's Night In" and you wanted to hit up Whole Foods Bakery Department, I definitely would not be mad at you.

Whole Foods Bakery

I would not be mad at all.

One more thing...I have some friends that have gone gluten free. I'm so sorry for them because they can't have a lot of what I bake. But Whole Foods has me covered! They have a Gluten Free Bakehouse Pumpkin Pie that's 100% gluten free. You can find it in the freezer section at Whole Foods. It's perfect to have on hand for any guests who have gone gluten free, those poor souls. Whether it's a "Girl's Night In" or a holiday gathering, Whole Foods has a solution! You can even fine a $1 off coupon in the Whole Deal savings guide or online at wholefoodsmarket.com/coupon.

They have other gluten free options, too!

So if you're in Tucson, head over to the River Road Whole Foods and check out their Dressing Rehearsal this weekend. It's sure to give you some great holiday entertaining ideas.

And just to get you started, I'm giving away a $50 gift card to Whole Foods! Anyone can enter! All you have to do is like the Whole Foods Market-River Road Facebook page and come back and leave me a comment telling me what you would make from Whole Foods if you won the $50 gift card!

Good luck and happy entertaining!

  4. We are new to Whole Foods. If fact they just opened on Tuesday in my area. We are excited to check out their produce and breads, which is likely what we would use it for.

  7. Um, I think i'd buy flax oil for Cici's blends. Maybe some probiotics. But I love cheese/cracker/jam plates.

  8. If the gift card is good for any Whole Foods (I'm in Indiana), then I would definitely try out those Gluten Free Pumpkin Pies for my little 11 y/o pumpkin who has Celiac disease and has never had pumpkin pie, or any pie for that matter. If it's just for the Tucson location then I guess I would make my sister-in-law Shammie's Christmas by giving it to her!
