The Wheelchair Pirate Ship Costume

The Wheelchair Pirate Ship Costume:

And Other Things that Made this Halloween the Best Ever.

I've been a little quiet on the blog lately and I'll tell you, I'm not very sorry about it.

October is always busy with things to do and see every single weekend. So it was appropriate that the last week of October would end with a great, big BANG, otherwise known as Halloween.

Would you believe I haven't even checked my blog email? I was busy doing things like carving pumpkins.

But then it was time to get ready for Halloween costumes. We had already decided Christian and Lola would be Jake and Izzy from Disney Jr.'s Jake and the Neverland Pirates. They both watch this show and I love my princess girl but I not so secretly love that she wanted to be a pirate like Izzy instead of a princess this year. I also totally loved that she wanted to be something with her brother. I don't know how long I'll be able to get away with matching costumes for them so I'm doing it now!

As you know, Christian is in a wheelchair. Last year Daddy made him a custom bat mobile for his wheelchair and he was Batman. This year, since he was Jake the Neverland pirate, he got a pirate ship!

My husband cut out the shape of the ship and constructed it from cardboard boxes. He measured and made sure it would just slip right over Christian's wheelchair. I lined it with yellow Duck Tape and made the mast from a sheet of felt and blue streamers we had left over from a party. I also made the pirate emblem from more Duck Tape, cardboard, and a print out.

I was running out of time before Christian's costume parade at school so I was frantically trying to get this pirate ship ready! I used a glue gun, clothes pins, pipe cleaners, whatever I could get my hands on, to make this ship as cool as possible.

Say hello to Jake and Izzy!

It was then time for Christian's costume parade at school! All the kids loved his costume. He was definitely the star of the parade.

I think the best part of the whole day was when Christian came around the corner. All of the older kids and parade watchers were giving high fives to all of the parade participants. But when Christian came in his pirate ship, everyone started cheering and clapping. It was absolutely amazing and made this Momma's day.

Later that night we went trick or treating and scored a ton of candy!

So, no, I haven't done much blogging this week. But that's okay. I was busy enjoying the best Halloween I've ever had.
