Apple Orchards, Pumpkin Patches, and Cider Donuts

Apple Orchards, Pumpkin Patches, and Cider Donuts

We did fall stuff yesterday! And it wasn't even hot so it was like legit fall.

We have a loose tradition - and I call it loose because we don't stick to it every year but we try - where we go to a little town called Willcox about an hour away just to pick apples from Apple Annie's Apple Orchard and pick pumpkins from a real, live pumpkin patch. They also have a little bakery that has fresh salsas, jellies, apple bread, fudge, and fresh baked pies. Seriously, they're still warm when you buy them.

In the last ten years Apple Annie's has also started churning homemade ice cream in Apple Crumb Pie and Pumpkin. To die for.

But they just started making these.

They make these donuts fresh, right there in front of you. The ice cream wasn't ready so I was practically forced to buy a dozen of these donuts. They were probably some of the best donuts I've ever had but whatever.

See, I've been coming to this orchard since my first visit as an eight year old Brownie. When local pumpkin patches started popping up that weren't an hour away from me (there is literally a pumpkin patch about ten minutes from my house), I refused to go. I was devoted to Willcox out of tradition and principle.

The last few years the entire trip seemed a little overwhelming with two small children, one in a wheelchair. So we skipped it.

But this year was different. I knew my daughter would absolutely love picking apples. And Christian has some new wheels.  So we carefully chose the first weekend in October. We planned to have breakfast in the morning and head out early. We got there at around 9:30. It was 70 degrees!

Willcox totally delivered.

Oh, so pumpkin patches aren't normally handicap accessible? That's cool, bro.

  2. That looks like it was so much fun! I think it's awesome that you first went there as a Brownie (you know I'm game on anything Girl Scout). I absolutely love your daughter's tutu and your Halloween themed shirts...I do the same thing! You totally made me want some of those donuts and the other YumYummy treats they offer...

  3. OMG, I'm drooling at the thought of those cider donuts, YUM! Looks like such a fun time, and props for navigating the pumpkin patch with a wheelchair. I could hardly navigate the rows of the pumpkin patch we went to last year on my own two feet!
