Dirty Dancing: A Girl Date

Dirty Dancing:

A Girl Date

Last Sunday I went on a Girl Date.

Red Lobster

It's not often that a group of moms can get together kid free. But my friend, Shammie, heard that one of the movie theaters was having a series of  "classic" movies they were showing through the summer. And guess what "classic" means...Dirty Dancing.

Dirty dancing

That's right. Movies I grew up with are now considered "classics." That's adorable.

First we decided to meet up for some day drinking at Red Lobster. Raspberry Lobsteritas with a sugared rim make me happy.

Girl Date
She's so pretty!

Dirty Dancing

Then we headed over to the movie theater and watch our "classic" movie. And guess what. The theater was filled with little old ladies. I guess this meant we were supposed to feel right at home.

I own this movie. I own the anniversary edition  I've probably watched the thing maybe 150 times if I'm being conservative. But it was so much fun to watch it with friends on a giant floor to ceiling screen. We laughed, made jokes, tried to sing along, repeated the lines, and everyone clapped when Johnny said, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner."

I think I may have remembered someone saying, "These old ladies are gonna kick our ass!"

We tried to take pictures after the movie to document this girl date but the person we asked to take a group picture acted like she had never taken a cell phone picture in her life and it wasn't because she was elderly. She was nice and all for attempting but all the pictures were pretty terrible.

See?

Dirty Dancing

I mean, how does that even happen?

All together now...Now, I've...had...the time of my life...AND I OWE IT ALL TO YOU!

  1. I love this post! But seriously, Dirty Dancing is a classic?!? That just doesn't seem fair.
I also enjoyed your pics and that last one is hilarious! Thanks so much for the smile and the giggle :)

I know! I refuse to believe Dirty Dancing is a classic. REFUSE!

      Fight the power.

    1. Isn't it the best? Completely ridiculous. But still the best.

  6. Dirty Dancing was the first movie I watched dozens of times. Knowing it is being added to 'classic' lists makes me feel the same way I did when 80's parties started being a legitimate costume theme. It was elegant rebellion all the way, and no vampires in sight... though 'Lost Boys' was another teenage favourite...

    1. Ha ha! Yeah, no vampires! Makes me feel old but if it's a classic, I accept it. Such a great movie!

  7. Dirty Dancing is my FAVORITE movie ever (I know, me and like half the female world, but whatever.) I saw it in the theater when it was re-released a few years ago and it was possibly one of my favorite movie watching experiences ever. Everyone was quoting, singing and cheering. So much fun and a GREAT idea for a girls night.
"...but most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life, the way I feel when I'm with you." (cue sexy music) If I could choose one fictional character could come to life it would be Johnny Castle. Ok, I'm done obsessing. ;)

    1. Oh my gosh, I just heard her voice and high pitch tone when she ends that quote. And I think we all said it at the same time under our breath. That sound track is amazing, too!

  8. How fun!! Once in awhile I get out for a girls' night but it seems we always just meet up for drinks at the same few places and that's about it. A "classic" movie is a great idea. And feeling so old, as well, that they are calling Dirty Dancing a classic!

    1. See, that's how we mixed it up! We decided to have a girl date on a Sunday afternoon. Husbands were home to watch the kids, nobody to fight for a seat at the restaurant. It was pretty awesome!

  9. Sounds like a perfect ladies night. Dirty Dancing, and drinks. Patrick Swayze just melts me. Sigh. I can never pass it by when it is on, so I will have to pick up my own copy now...

    1. Oh, yeah, it's definitely on my "must watch now" list if I see it on TV.

  10. I always thought it was a classic in the "must watch" sense... but it's far from classic in the black-and-white sense! ;) It looks like you had a lovely evening.

  11. I can admit it. I'm a bit jealous. I own it. I've watched it with my teen daughters (who now love it). But it would be such a treat to see it on the big screen again. I'm pretty sure it was the first movie I saw more than once at the theater. It sounds like a wonderful night out with friends.

Happy Sharefest. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

  13. I totally get the "classic" thing. On Sirius when I turn on the classic rock station it's mostly music I listened to in high school. I wonder if that makes me a classic? Great pics! It's weird how the older lady got such an odd picture. LOL!

    Happy Saturday Sharefest!

  14. Girl dates are always so fun! But I'm a little sad that Dirty Dancing is now considered a classic...I remember in middle school we spent our sleepovers practicing all the dances!

  15. Love it all, especially that last picture. I think it would be awesome to go on a girl date to see Dirty Dancing in the movie theater! Just like I did in 6th grade :)

  16. Ahahhaa.. Hilarious. I've got a girl date this afternoon with some of my knitting group at a cafe - not nearly as exciting, but damn it's nice to get out sometimes!

Gonna make the husband rewatch Dirty Dancing with me tonight I think. ;)

  17. I loved this post and I loved the movie! I have a "girl date" coming up next Friday. I guess you'd call it an old girls date because our ages range from 50 to 80! We're just going out to dinner at a nice restaurant. We are a group of friends who at one time all worked at the same bank.
I just stopped by from SITS to say hello; hope you can do the same!

  18. I love Dirty Dancing! I've seen that movie probably a million times and each time feels like I'm just watching it for the first time. Glad you ladies had fun. Stopping by from SITS.

  20. I go on girl dates about once a month or so....LOVE it...and mine usually involved martinis (or lots of beer) too. Dirty Dancing is one of my all time favorites, and I burst out laughing when I saw it was listed as a "classic."
(Although I admit it's been hard to watch it since Patrick Swayze died. It STILL makes me sad!)

  22. That sounds like an AWESOME girl date! I saw Dirty Dancing the musical before I saw the actual movie. Patrick Swayze was so dreamy...
