Seven Reasons Why Facebook Is Awesome

SEVEN REASONS WHY FACEBOOK IS AWESOME

Don't deny it.

With all the passive aggressive, sulking, show off, "I'm the best parent in the world," depressing, dramatic, negative, and positive status updates we're all privy to on the daily, I don't think Facebook is so bad.

In fact, I think it's pretty awesome.

I've been teased for how much I refer to Facebook or for how much time I spend in Facebookland. But I often wonder how anybody would know I was on Facebook unless they were on, too. Hmm. Wonder how that happens.

Anyway. Yeah. So I don't think Facebook is all that bad. And I'll give you SEVEN REASONS why I think Facebook is so great. I might even go as far as to say it's been life changing.

1. Family: Facebook keeps my nose in my family's business. I have family in all corners of the country. I have family in upstate New York, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Florida, Colorado, and I'm here in Arizona. I have cousins with whom I would have lost touch. But now I get to see their weddings and their babies because of Facebook. I keep up to date with my niece and nephews in New York as I see them grow through posted pictures on Facebook. I have aunts and uncles there, too. And everyone gets to see us as well!

2. Support Groups: I get by with a little help from my friends. Call them support groups, call them mom groups, call them due date groups, birthday groups, "I Love Facebook" groups, they're everywhere on Facebook! I am a member of a few different group pages. We can be candid or crazy, share inside jokes, or commiserate. And we're all from different parts of the world. It's really pretty amazing, if you think about it - people from all over the world bonded by a common thread. Where could this ever happen? Facebook. That's where.

3. Events: Where's the party at? Facebook has this awesome little feature that easily informs everyone where the party is happening. And it's really easy to invite people to any event you're hosting, whether it's a jewelry party or your kids' birthday parties.

4. Happenings: What did Kim and Kanye name their baby? Let me tell you, I never would have known what Kimye named their new daughter if it weren't for Facebook. Status after status told me the new baby's name is North. At first I was all, "Whaaaa?" but now I'll admit, I think it's growing on me. Don't unfriend me for that, mmmkay? But let's acknowledge the more important happenings. Like the election coverage, the Boston shooters, things that are really important happen and I feel like I'm watching history in the making with all my friends. We compare notes. We exchange thoughts. It's a beautiful thing.

5. Record Keeping: I guess I don't need a baby book. I have Facebook now! I have pictures in my Facebook folders from when two of my kids were babies. If the intention of the Facebook gurus was to make it so that we were attached to our pages and our photo albums, it worked. It was a genius decision to revamp timeline. My facebook timeline is a culmination of the last five years of my life. So, yeah, you could say I'm a little attached.

6. Advertising: Want to follow my blog? Of course, Facebook has been essential in sharing my little Momma Candy when I started it back in December. I've also been sharing my other blog through Facebook for the last four years. In turn, I get access to blogs I like to read, too. But bigger than blogging (is there really anything bigger than blogging?) is advertising for business! It's almost essential that businesses have a Facebook page to grow their business. And what better way to get the word out about a fundraiser? Facebook is the place to spread the word.

7. Birthdays: Wow. How did everyone know?! Well, because Facebook told them. But doesn't it feel good to see your Facebook page streaming with Happy Birthday! from your Facebook friends? It feels awesome, don't lie.

Is it Helping People, Remembering Birthdays? Or Helping People Remember Birthdays?
 You get the idea.

So with all the negative that Facebook can bring, it certainly does have its upside. And so maybe I do post pictures of my kids, my dinner (I don't really do that unless it's really amazing), my latest craft project, or something funny that Lola said. Some days maybe I do spend more time on Facebook than others. But I'm okay with that. It means I've kept in touch. I've reached out.

Stop hating, haters! Ignore the negative and embrace the positive!

Why do you use Facebook?

  4. I love Facebook for all these reasons plus it's a great escape from the stress of the day. I love being able to get on it and loose myself in one of the many free games for a little while.

  5. I think my love affair with Facebook ended one year into the relationship. The only reason I still have an account is due to the Bloggers group I joined via Facebook. Now Twitter, that's my new boo! Thank you for visiting BeQuoted!!! - Andrea #SitsShareFest

    1. I must admit, Twitter is growing on me! I love love love Twitter for TV shows. It's the funnest thing to live tweet while watching a show. My only problem with it is that I'm long winded! I need like a paragraph! Which is probably more my problem than Twitter's.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  6. I'm mostly into reason 1, with added international friends, as well. It's like an auto-updating address book for keeping in touch with everyone.

  7. I think I'm most not into Facebook because #1. The family I want to share my life with aren't online... and the family that is online, it isn't helpful at all. It's like the opposite of "support groups". They all comment and say "yay", but that's it. No help, no assistance. Sadly, FB is a constant reminder of how much my family sucks.
