A Tattoo Makeover: The Pumpkin Tattoo

Tattoo Makeover

The Pumpkin Tattoo

It's been a week since my birthday and the one thing I asked for from my husband was to have one of my tattoos fixed.

I didn't need a full on cover up because the sentiment for the tattoo is still the same. I just wanted a tattoo make over. And I promised myself that before I got any new ink, I would fix this particular tattoo first.

This is it...

(This is what you get when you try to take a picture of your back by yourself.)

Yeah. That.

There's a whole back story to it so here goes.

Ever since I was little I can remember my dad calling me "Punk." Short for Pumpkin, which I always feel I need to explain. Not that he was calling me a punk. I'm pretty sure it was because I had a giant head that resembled a pumpkin. Maybe.

He also called my sister "Peanut" because she was small and petite as a little girl. So my sister and I decided that the next time we were together we would get pumpkin and peanut tattoos.

The time finally came that all three of us were together - my dad, my sister, and me. This only happens every five years or so because we all live at different corners of the country. So we did it! Dad took us to get our tattoos.

I hadn't prepared as much as I should have. And it was my second tattoo. So the artist drew something up and I was like, "Sure, whatever." And the next thing I knew I had an orange pumpkin on my back.

My sister got a Planters Mr. Peanut, by the way. Top hat and everything. Cute, right?

Anyway, this was like two years ago. I've gotten three more tattoos since and found an amazing artist who better not ever leave or I will follow her!

I asked her if she could give my pumpkin a makeover because I still wanted the pumpkin. It reminds me of my dad and my sister. I just wanted it to be more....more...bad ass. The pumpkin I had reminded me of clip art. Generic. Like a stamp. It was blotchy and I'm just going to say it. The roots looked like little turds.

I found a couple pictures of a pumpkin as a Cinderella carriage that I thought would be awesome since Lola is obsessed with Cinderella. But my current pumpkin wasn't really set up for that.

However, Lindsay, the tattoo artist, was able to create something that still gave me some Cinderella magic but turned this generic pumpkin stamp into an actual piece. And I love it!

The reveal...

I'm sure it doesn't look that much different. But here's the side by side.

Yeah. I would say that's, like, a lot better!

I never understood the importance of finding a tattoo artist whose work you like until I found Lindsay. Then it all clicked. So if you're looking for a tattoo, find an artist whose work you love because then everything that artist does will be amazeballs.

Again, happy birthday to me!

(Now, I'm free to go get more ink!)

  1. I love the re-do, it looks amazing. I wish I could find someone in my area to re-do a couple of mine.

    1. Thank you! I'm really happy with it. I think the best way to find an artist is through friends. Or if you see a tattoo on someone you like, just ask where they got it and go there.

  2. The re-do looks amazing! Gives me hope for a re-do that I really need done on one of my tattoos.

  3. Love the makeover! It looks great.
    Happy Belated Birthday.

  4. The new and improved looks awesome!

  5. I love that! I'm thinking about re-doing my lower back tattoo....yes, I have one of those. Stupid spring break.

  6. Just found your blog!
    Now following!!
    Looking forward to keeping up!

I also have a blog design site, so if you ever need a custom blog design at great prices, please check it out :)

  7. That's a great tatt makeover. What a difference, and it does evoke a Cinderella feel to it.
