Winding Down the Weekend: Bowling and Sick Kids

Bowling and Sick Kids

I just got off of one of my good TV nights - Walking Dead, Talking Dead, Real Housewives of Atlanta, Shahs of Sunset, Mob Wives - busy night! I can only handle this TV schedule with the help of a DVR and bed time.

Friday the husband and I went bowling with some friends for a fundraiser for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. We go bowling sometimes and it's always fun. It's not something I would love if we went all the time but because we go every once in a while, it's a lot of fun.

You know what I love the most about bowling? The food! Yes, I said the food! Bowling alley food is so junky and so good. I have a weakness for fried zucchini. A serious love and weakness. Yummy fried food and fully a accessible bar makes for a good time. I'm not that great at bowling anyway. Actually, I'm really terrible at it if I'm being completely honest, so I'm really there for the food...and booze.

While this fun was happening, my youngest, Lola, was getting sick at home with what I think is her very first stomach bug.

Vomit everywhere.

So after getting home and for the rest of the night she was uncomfortable. And when the kids are sick, everything stops. No visiting friends. No outings. The result was a couped up weekend. I mean, besides going grocery shopping, which my husband considers my 'me time' but whatev.

The good news is my little sicky wasn't sick for long. She bounced back pretty quickly and was ready to take on the world by today.

She got her appetite back today, asked for chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast, and insisted on playing outside this evening. I don't think you'll hear a bigger sigh of relief than from a mother who's child who has been sick is now up, feeling, better, and rocking her cheetah shirt.

It was absolutely gorgeous today. I was sitting in my back yard thinking - I can't believe it snowed ten days ago. But we have more cold weather coming. I'm over it. I want warm weather and barbecues! At least I can exercise my scarf addiction for just a little longer.

Training this week for a 5K on Saturday. Help me, Baby Jesus! Help me, Tom Cruise!

Have a good week!

What do you have planned?

  1. so glad your little one is feeling better. i thought i was the only one that loved bowling alley food. it can be awesome! great post!

  2. Sounds like we had very similar weekends. We bowled Friday night, and I have to admit, my numbers were poor. I don't know if it was the pressure of such a large group of people, or having the lights off. Embarrassing to say the least.

On a sadder note, our "little" has been with fever since Friday. Today still. There's this persistent discomfort and boy-aches, I'm certain. Sad to see our babies suffer.

    Seding well wishes your way!

  3. Boo for sick babies. It's the worst! Glad she is feeling better and that you guys got to at least have a little fun with bowling. :)

  4. Glad she got better quickly-- never fun when they are throwing up. I am a horrible bowler too-- if I get over 100 I am happy.
